Arizona Humane Society offering free adoptions for week in honor of 20-year milestone

PHOENIX — The Arizona Humane Society is offering free adoptions through Tuesday in celebration of its South Mountain campus’ 20th anniversary.
The Nina Mason Pulliam South Mountain Campus, located at 15th Avenue and Dobbins Road, opened in 2002 and has been responsible for over 90,000 adoptions, according to a press release.
Adoptions fees for pets at all locations will be waived thanks to longtime donors Stuart and Ted Tufty.
The Arizona Humane Society also has an adoption location at PetSmart Scottsdale, located at 4380 N. Miller Road.
“Our 20-year partnership with the Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust has allowed us to focus our efforts on both ends of the leash,” Steven Hansen, Arizona Humane Society President and CEO, said in the release.
The Nina Mason Pulliam Charitable Trust has provided nearly $6 million in funding over the past 20 years to help aid the shelter.
That includes a $3 million gift for the under-construction 72,000-square-foot Rob and Melani Walton Papago Park Campus that is scheduled to open in early 2023.
“By implementing programs for both pets and their owners, we are better able to address the root of pet ownership problems in our community as opposed to simply putting a Band-Aid on it,” Hansen said. “In doing so, tens of thousands of pets and owners have benefited.”
