PHOENIX — The Arizona Game and Fish Commission named Tom Finley as its new director of the Arizona Game and Fish Department on Friday.

Finley’s appointment resulted from a 5-0 vote at the agency’s Sept. 5 meeting in Prescott. He will be Ty Gray’s successor. Gray worked in the role for the past seven years and is retiring after 31 years with the Arizona Game and Fish Commission.

How long has Tom Finley worked for the Arizona Game and Fish Department?

Currently serving as the agency’s deputy director, Finley has worked for the Arizona Game and Fish Commission for 33 years. There will be a short transition period before Finley takes on his new role.

How is the Arizona Game and Fish Department director appointed?

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission’s five-member board appoints the Arizona Game and Fish Department director. The board is responsible for the department’s policy and oversight, while the director works as the chief administrative officer and as a general supervisor for the department and oversees all of its activities, functions and employees.
