Arizona Department of Education to award $1,000 grants for classroom projects

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Education announced Tuesday it would be providing $1,000 grants to teachers for classroom projects.
The program is in partnership with Donors Choose and funded with $14 million of COVID-19 relief funds, Arizona Superintendent of Public Instruction Kathy Hoffman told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Gaydos and Chad Show.
“I feel like Oprah today,” Hoffman said. “I really want this to be a way to say thank you to our teachers who I know have been working so hard, especially through the pandemic to serve their students and really to give them an opportunity to think creatively.”

Teachers in Pre-K through 12th grade can request the funds online, which Hoffman said could be used to buy materials for things like a science project or to start a school garden.
“Because we have $14 million that we’re investing in this, it will fund roughly a quarter of Arizona teachers,” Hoffman said.
Only one project per teacher is eligible for funding, according to the website.
Teachers after receiving the funding will be required to upload a short essay with photos showing the impact materials bought with the funding had in the classroom.
