Arizona announces 3 cases of vaping-related respiratory illness

PHOENIX — The Arizona Department of Health Services announced Tuesday that there have been three cases of a vaping-related respiratory illness in the state.
All three cases occurred in Maricopa County and resulted in hospitalization, but those affected have been released, the agency said.
Dr. Cara Christ, ADHS director, told KTAR News 92.3 FM earlier this month that the agency was investigating to see if the state had seen any cases.
As of Tuesday, there have been 380 cases of vaping-related illnesses reported by 36 states and territories, with six deaths reported nationwide.
“We are working with our county and federal partners to identify the cause of this very serious illness,” Christ said in a press release.
She said it’s important that parents talk to their children about the risks associated with vaping products.
“If your child has experimented with vaping and they are now experiencing any symptoms, please seek medical care immediately,” she said.
Symptoms have included shortness of breath, cough, chest pain, nausea and fatigue.
Doctors and health officials are suggesting people stay away from all vaping products until the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention investigation establishes exactly what’s at the root of the illnesses.
