PHOENIX — Construction of affordable apartments in Phoenix for seniors and young adults with developmental disabilities is scheduled for completion next year.

Spectrum Courtyard Apartments — located at 21st and Missouri avenues — will provide 25 new units by early 2021, according to a press release.

The completed apartments will be the result of a partnership between two Phoenix-based nonprofits: Foundation for Senior Living and First Place Transition Academy.

“Spectrum Courtyard is a sister project to FSL’s property, 29 Palms, where a similar collaboration exists with First Place to serve seniors and young adults with autism,” FSL Director of Real Estate Steve Hastings said in the release.

“Based on the success of 29 Palms, FSL and First Place decided to pursue Spectrum Courtyard to broaden the number of community members they serve.”

The multi-generational supportive housing units will come in one and two-bedroom options.

FSL was founded in 1974 and aims to improve the quality of life for both seniors and their caregivers through a variety of community-based and in-home services.

The First Place Transition Academy is operated by the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center and provides clients with a two-year program aimed at maximizing independence and career readiness.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, FSL has been forced to temporarily close some of its services. Those interested in supporting the organization’s efforts can do so online.
