PHOENIX – Five years and $571 million worth of highway construction projects in Arizona will be presented for public opinion at a hearing Friday in Scottsdale.

The Arizona Department of Transportation said in a press release the recommended plan includes widening Interstate 17 from Anthem Way north to Sunset Point and adding flex lanes between Sunset Point and Black Canyon City; opening up the Gila River Bridge between Phoenix and Casa Grande; the initial phase of an interchange at Interstate 40 and U.S. 93 in Kingman; and widening part of State Route 260 in Mohave County.

The meeting at the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Community Tribal Council Chambers near Osborn and Alma School roads is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.

Anyone interested can attend in person or participate online.

The costliest of the proposed improvements is the interchange in northern Arizona at $125 million with construction starting in 2024.

Widening I-17 and adding flex lanes comes in next at $83.6 million, part of $469 million overall spent on the upgrades.

Some funding for that plan was secured through the agency’s partnership with the Maricopa Association of Governments.

Another goal the agency is working on in the plan is repaving and restoring roads and bridges.

The public comment period began March 18 and comes to an end June 2 at 5 p.m.

The State Transportation Board is likely to consider formal action at a meeting June 17.

We want to hear from you.
