Abrazo unveils plan to open small-scale hospital in Surprise next year

PHOENIX – A Phoenix-based health care network announced plans to build a small-scale hospital to serve patients in the West Valley.
Abrazo Community Health Network expects to open the facility in Surprise in mid-2020.
“Abrazo has quite a few patients from the Surprise community,” Abrazo spokesman Keith Jones told KTAR News 92.3 FM on Tuesday. “We’re really focused on providing an integrated network of services closer to home for our patients.”
The 32,500-square-foot Abrazo Surprise Hospital will be similar in size and functionality to a new hospital the network plans to open in Mesa this summer.

The West Valley hospital near Loop 303 and Bell Road will offer 24-hour emergency care and have an operating room for minor surgical procedures and eight inpatient beds.
“The emergency department will have 13 private rooms and will be staffed with experienced emergency nurses, techs and board-certified emergency physicians,” Jones said.
The facility, which will also provide X-ray, lab and pharmacy services, is expected to create around 50 full-time clinical and support jobs.
The smaller Mesa and Surprise hospitals will join five existing acute-care hospitals in Abrazo’s network, which also includes freestanding emergency centers, urgent care centers and physician practices.
