PHOENIX — Abrazo Health announced Monday it has acquired land in Buckeye for a new campus that will include a medical office building, ambulatory services and an acute care hospital.

The Phoenix-based health care network in a press release said the initial phase of the 27-acre development located near the southwest corner of Interstate 10 and Verrado Way is expected to break ground this year.

“A new campus in the West Valley will strengthen our ability to provide essential health services,” Abrazo Health Market CEO Brian Elisco said in the release.

“We view this as a long-term commitment to serve current and future residents.”

The new Buckeye campus will join Abrazo Health’s freestanding emergency center at I-10 and Watson Road and its West Campus, which features a 216-bed level 1 trauma and stroke center, at Litchfield and McDowell roads. Abrazo Health has 19 locations around the Valley.

“This is great news and an incredible investment in the future of Buckeye and the West Valley,” Mayor Eric Orsborn said in the release.

“Abrazo Health is already an excellent partner in our community, and this new facility will significantly enhance the health care services currently available to our residents and businesses, with the flexibility to expand with our fast-growing city.”

Numerous jobs are expected to be added in the West Valley with the new campus, including medical campus construction, staffing and support services.

The health care network said it would gather input from local health providers and the community to plan for what services will be provided at the new medical campus and that additional details would be released at a later date.
