PHOENIX — While no Arizonans won the Powerball jackpot on Saturday, two people in the state hold tickets worth $1 million.

Two lottery tickets purchased in Arizona convenience stores hit on five out of five numbers but missed the Powerball number, according to a press release. Both were unclaimed as of Tuesday.

One was sold at a QuikTrip near Southern Avenue and Crimson Road in Mesa and the other at Rio Rico Chevron near Yavapai Drive and Camino Caralampi in Rio Rico.

The winning numbers were 5, 8, 17, 27, 28 plus 14 as the Powerball.

The winning ticket, worth $23.2 million, was sold in New Jersey.

Saturday’s drawing saw the largest number of millionaires created in a single U.S. lottery drawing within the last five years as 43 people across the country won $1 million.

Ticket sales soared over the past few weeks when jackpots reached over $700 million, resulting in a total of $94,753,140 generated from Mega Millions and Powerball ticket sales.

Of the total sales, $32,419,672.39 goes back to Arizona, according to the release.

Proceeds go toward funding programs across the state in higher education, economic development, environmental conservation and health and human services.
