PHOENIX — A house fire killed two men in Glendale early Tuesday morning, the fire department announced.

66-year-old Stephen Skuba and 29-year-old Robert Skuba died after being pulled from the fire, the Glendale Fire Department said in a press release.

Firefighters were called to the area of 55th Avenue and Sunnyslope Lane around 3 a.m. Tuesday. On the call, neighbors told firefighters two people were in the house.

When firefighters arrived, there was heavy smoke and flames. They entered the house and first found Stephan Skuba.

Skuba was taken outside, where rescue crews attempted treatment. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Robert Skuba was found in critical condition and taken to a hospital, where he died.

Investigators are still determining the cause but believe it may have been an electrical fire.

There were no smoke detectors in the house.

The Glendale Police Department issued a reminder to residents to make sure smoke detectors in homes are operational.
