PHOENIX — A pair of houses caught on fire in Phoenix on Sunday, displacing two families and killing three dogs, according to the fire department.

Phoenix Fire responded to a report of a backyard fire at one of the houses, which was on 48th and Fillmore streets, the department said in a statement.

Only one person was harmed by the fire. A man got minor burns on his forehand and arms, but chose not to go to the hospital after the fire crew assessed his injuries.

Seven dogs had been inside the homes. Four of them were rescued, but three of them died during the fire.

The families that lived in the houses have been displaced. Red Cross and Phoenix crisis response units arrived at the homes to help.

No firefighters were injured while battling the fire. They continued to put out hotspots after the fire department sent the email with details shortly before 6:30 p.m.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

We want to hear from you.
