PHOENIX – Two drivers were wounded in an apparent road rage shootout in Phoenix on Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

Officers responded to a shooting call near 40th Avenue and Camelback Road around 1:50 p.m. and found a woman who’d been shot, the Phoenix Police Department said in a press release Thursday.

Police said she’d been driving when she got into a traffic dispute, which led to an exchange of gunfire between a passenger in her vehicle and a man driving another car.

Officers located the other driver, 21-year-old Caleb Santillanes, a few blocks away. He also had a gunshot wound.

Santillanes and the woman were treated for their injuries, which weren’t life-threatening.

The other man involved in the shootout remains at large, police said.

After getting treatment, Santillanes was booked into Maricopa County Jail on one count each of aggravated assault, disorderly conduct and discharging a firearm in city limits, police said.

No other details were immediately available.
