A man has been arrested after two underweight, neglected horses were found on his property, said the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
On June 8, MCSO received a tip that 33-year-old Jesse Noriega had a mare and and colt on his property in the 6000 block of west Broadway.
When MCSO arrived on the scene, the mare was found to have a broken left ankle and to be in great pain. The mare was subsequently euthanized. The colt was seized by MCSO.
Noriega said he had owned the mare for two years and was the sole caretaker of the animals.
Noriega was arrested and charged with felony cruelty to animals.
MCSO has seized nine horses in the past two weeks, four of which had to be euthanized. Two people have been arrested and charged with cruelty to animals.
