Guard at state hospital booked in child-porn case

PHOENIX — An Arizona State Mental Hospital security guard has been
arrested after a woman found bags filled with child pornography in the trash at
a Glendale apartment complex.

The bags contained a broken laptop computer, flash drives and images of naked
boys. The laptop was found to contain photos of boys in sexual and bondage situations, along with the resume and military records of Roger James Forney, the suspect in the case.

A hand-written log describing the sexual torture of a 5-year-old boy was also found.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s deputies were
called to the apartment complex Sunday after the woman found the bags. They
later searched the home of Forney after linking him to the items.

“I commend the person who saw these images and turned them in to us,” said Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. “This citizen did the right thing, people involved in child pornography are ill and should be removed from society either through incarceration at a jail facility or state hospital.”

Forney, 48, was booked into jail on 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.
It’s not clear if he has a lawyer yet.

Forney reportedly admitted that he had tried to destroy the photos after an FBI
warning locked his computer and that he had a fetish for young boys. He also thanked deputies for arresting him.

In a later search of Forney’s residence, deputies had to wear breathing equipment and protective gear because of the “disgusting” nature of the apartment, which was found to be full of cat feces and urine and infested with cockroaches.

Records show that Forney is a retired Army National Guard Military Police Officer and former Arizona Department of Public Safety officer.
