SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — People from all over the country will be converging on Scottsdale Saturday.
They’ll be checking out 1,650 cars for sale during this year’s Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction at Westworld.
One of them is Jed Clampett’s pickup truck from the “Beverly Hillbillies” tv show, and another car from “I Love Lucy.” Plus, the last car that Billionaire Howard Hughes ever drove.
“It’s a 1953 Buick Roadmaster,” said Craig Jackson. “He used it as his mobile office. The windows don’t roll down. It’s sealed. If you were a passenger in it, you were a passenger. You didn’t get to get out unless Howard Hughes let you out.”
NASCAR great Jeff Gordon and Master’s Champion Bubba Watson are among the celebrities who will be selling cars during the event.
Jackson believes this will be their best auction ever.
“This is the first time that we’ve ever (started) on a Saturday and run (the entire week) until the next Sunday,” Jackson said.
There’s lots of other things to do in addition to the cars.
“Every night there’s something different,” said Jackson. “We have concerts on Saturday and Tuesday nights. We have bull riding next weekend on Friday and Saturday nights. There are multiple charity cars, ride and drives by Ford, General Motors and Dodge. Hellcat drag racing experiences here. We’ve got General Motors giving you hot laps in Corvettes. It doesn’t stop!”
Saturday is family value day, with kids admitted free. The auction runs through Jan. 18 at Westworld.
