Grand Canyon University plans to expand Phoenix campus

PHOENIX — Grand Canyon University is rapidly growing, the Phoenix Business Journal reported Tuesday.
The private Christian university will spend nearly $200 million on new classrooms and residential housing — but that is not nearly enough to accommodate the number of students enrolling each semester.
Brian Mueller, CEO of Grand Canyon Education Inc., told the publication he wants to expand the campus from 240 acres to 400.
“It’ll be a $2 billion business,” Mueller said.
Eventually, Mueller said the campus will reach out to 35th Avenue on the west, Missouri Avenue on the north, 27th Avenue on the east and Camelback Road on the south.
In four years, GCU has grown from 900 students to over 15,000. In the same time frame, the campus only expanded 140 acres.
Mueller said he expects the campus to grow to 25,000 students in four more years, with an additional 90,000 studying online.
