MESA, Ariz. — A restaurant in Mesa, Arizona where a student was shot last week during a shooting spree reopened Monday.
Ryan Giroux allegedly shot one student at Bistro 13 before carjacking a teacher in an attempt to flee the area. Giroux allegedly shot three others prior to the student, killing one.
Assistant Superintendent of EVIT David Schapira said the shot student, Isaac Martinez, is recovering and in good spirits.
“It was certainly a worrisome day, although we’re at least pleased that the students that were affected were largely uninjured, the one student that was hurt was discharged from the hospital the day of the incident,” he said. “(Martinez) is a student that I’ve gotten to know over the school year and certainly when I found out that it was Isaac that was injured, I was concerned.”
Schapira said the school is offering crisis counseling for faculty and students who may be struggling following the crime spree.
Student Taela Videau said the bistro prepared for a surge of people who wanted to show support.
