Man stabbing mother shot, killed by witness in Phoenix

PHOENIX — Police said a man who had been stabbing his mother was shot and killed by another man trying to stop the attack in west Phoenix.
The woman was hospitalized in critical condition.
A Phoenix Police spokesman said the woman and her son were arguing in a car near 51st Avenue and Cactus Road when he began stabbing her.
The woman eventually fell out of the car into the street.
Witnesses tried to help but the knifing continued. One man finally went back to his house, returned with a gun and ordered the woman’s son to stop.
When the attack continued, the witness shot the man.
No other details were available.
