A Cave Creek, Ariz. woman was arrested Thursday for animal hoarding, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office.
Lucille Willis, 67, was visited by detectives after the sheriff’s office received a tip through its animal cruelty hotline. When arriving at her home, located at the 6000 block of East Kohuana Place, living conditions appeared “atrocious” and “not suitable for raising animals.”
In all, 20 cats, three dogs and another deceased cat were found in the home, which was filled with trash and debris, according to a release. All of the animals were suffering from various serious medical conditions.
The sheriff’s office suspects that such instances of cruelty are on the rise in the Valley.
