One of the shooting victims from Wednesday’s fateful spree in Mesa posted to social media before seeking medical attention.
Twenty-year-old Isaac Martinez shared a “selfie” on Snapchat after being shot in the shoulder by the shooting suspect, Ryan Giroux.
“I just got shot,” he wrote as his caption.
According to a New York Daily News report, Martinez was shot after refusing Giroux’s demands for the keys to his car.
“I had a bullet hit me from behind and go through my shoulder and out my (collar) area,” he wrote on Facebook. “Any higher or lower it coulda hit a artery, or shatter my shoulder blade. It was a miracle hit.”
Martinez, a culinary student at East Valley Institute of Technology, had been driving his instructor’s car at the time of the incident.
“Soon as I saw (the gun) I started stepping back,” he wrote. “And yelled for everyone to step back and get down. Next thing I knew I was hitting the ground, got up as fast as I fell, and ran out the back exit.”
Martinez took a second picture after being admitted to the hospital.
Giroux was captured hours later, ultimately killing one and injuring five others. He is a white supremacist, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.
