PHOENIX — The original battle may have taken place before Arizona was officially a state, but the Civil War will come to life Saturday and Sunday at Picacho Peak.
“It’s so real and it’s so authentic,” Sue Black with Arizona State Parks said.
More than 200 re-enactors will dress in full uniform to recreate the Battle of Picacho Pass, originally fought in 1862.
“You’re going to see horses, you’re going to see the equipment that was used; just the real battle,” Black said.
The Battle of Picacho Pass was the westernmost combat of the Civil War. It was officially deemed a Confederate victory.
