PHOENIX — Dreamers are optimistic an Arizona court will award them in-state tuition, organizers said at a Tuesday rally.

Dozens of Arizona Dreamers rallied outside the Maricopa County Superior Court before proceedings in Arizona vs. Education for DACA Recipients to out forth a positive message.

“We feel hopeful that the judge is going to make the morally right decision,” Dulce Matuz, president of the Arizona Dream Act Coalition, said.

Matuz said the case is about education equality and DREAMers should not be punished because they were born outside the country and brought to the U.S. at a young age. Many consider Arizona their home.

“I want to make sure that everybody that graduates (high school) and wants an opportunity, not special treatment, but an opportunity to the American dream of having an education can have that,” she said.

The case started in 2013 when Arizona’s previous attorney general, Tom Horne, filed a lawsuit against the Maricopa County Community College Board after it granted in-state tuition to deferred action recipients.
