PHOENIX — A Phoenix-area veteran received a surprise visit from President Barack Obama on Friday.

Obama visited the new home of Cory Remsburg, who was nearly killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan and sustained partial paralysis and brain damage in 2009.

The president brought Remsburg several housewarming gifts, including some White House-made beer.

He also addressed attendees.

“We know that there are a whole bunch of Corys out there and not all of their wounds are as easily seen,” Obama said.

The Army Ranger has met with Obama multiple times and received a standing ovation at the 2014 State of the Union address. He was invited by Obama.

“Cory is here tonight,” Obama said during last year’s address. “And like the Army he loves, like the America he serves, Sgt. 1st Class Cory Remsburg never gives up, and he does not quit.”

Obama was in town to discuss improvements made in the Veterans Affairs system since a scandal that rocked the nation began in Phoenix.

Remsburg’s custom home was donated by Homes for Wounded Warriors. It has widened doors and hallways, customized furnishings and therapy equipment.

We want to hear from you.
