PHOENIX — Whether its the desert landscape, year-long summer-like weather or access to a myriad of unique activities, more people have been moving into Maricopa County than any other county in the nation.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 37,670 more residents moved into Maricopa County than moved out between July 2014 and July 2015. This ranked the county No. 1 nationwide for net domestic migration.

The county’s population was approximately 4.1 million in July 2015. Within the year-long time period, more than 55,000 babies were born while nearly 29,000 deaths occurred, causing a natural increase of about 26,000.

Coming in second place for domestic migration was Clark County Nevada, with 24,901 more residents moving into the county than leaving.

While Maricopa County beat out 3,142 other counties nationwide to take the top spot, it wasn’t the only Arizona area to be awarded a top ranking.

The census bureau also found the Phoenix metropolitan area, which includes Mesa and Scottsdale, increased by 87,988 residents within the same year-long time period, ranking it No. 4 nationwide in population gain.

Current Maricopa County residents should use the U.S. Census Bureau’s ranking as a foresight.

The increase of people in a particular area typically calls for a higher demand in housing. Also, the welcoming of more than 55,000 babies could call for more first-time homebuyers.

We want to hear from you.
