Officer stabbing shuts down 16th and Van Buren streets in Phoenix

PHOENIX — A Phoenix police officer trying to break up a fight was stabbed and a murder suspect was shot Wednesday morning at 16th and Van Buren streets.
Police activity shut down the area for the investigation.
The unidentified officer was stabbed when he tried to stop a fight between a knife-wielding man and a woman. The man stabbed the woman first then officer, who had already shot the man.
All three were taken to a hospital. The suspect was in critical condition.
Police said if the survived, the suspect would also be charged with a Tuesday night stabbing death at 17th and Adams streets.
Witness Clay Thompson, who works nearby, said he heard a loud argument coming from the street Wednesday morning.
“It was like watching a movie,” he said.
