SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — A high-speed chase across an East Valley freeway ended early Tuesday morning with the driver in critical condition from self-inflicted wounds.
A Department of Public Safety spokesman said road spikes eventually brought the car, which reached speeds of 110 mph, to a halt near the Shea Boulevard exit on the Loop 101.
The chase began near Broadway Road and northbound Loop 101 around 2:30 a.m.
Officers were following an SUV that had been called in on suspicion of following another vehicle.
When officers began to tail the SUV, the driver sped away.
The driver was taken to a hospital.
