Sen. McCain ‘ashamed’ of his country, president in Ukraine crisis

Sen. John McCain is not mincing words when it comes to America’s response in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.

In an appearance on “Face the Nation” on CBS, McCain explained how he is disappointed with American efforts thus far in helping Ukrainians fight Russian forces.

“I’m ashamed of my country, I’m ashamed of my president and I’m ashamed of myself, that I haven’t done more to help these people,” McCain stated. “It is really, really heartbreaking.”

Interviewer Bob Schieffer responded saying he has known McCain for a very long time and has never heard him blatantly say he is ashamed with his country.

McCain said the U.S. can do more to help now by giving the Ukrainian people weapons with which to defend themselves.
