MESA, Arizona — Millions of visitors pass through Tonto National Forest’s recreational areas and lots of them leave a mess.
The mess will get smaller starting Saturday, when Friends of the Tonto National Forest, in cooperation with the Mesa Ranger District, host an annual cleanup from 8 a.m. to noon.
The majority of the clean-up will take place in the river bed, so participants must wear closed-toe, rubber-soled shoes. Volunteers are also encouraged to wear sunscreen, hats, gloves and to bring drinking water. Tonto daily passes are not required for participation.
Helpers will meet at the Pebble Beach Recreation Site just east of the Blue Point Bridge at 8 a.m for sign-in.
Registration is available online.
