Downtown Phoenix close to launching pay-by-phone parking

PHOENIX — Valley residents will soon be able to feed the meter in downtown Phoenix from their smartphones.
The city is set to launch Pango Parking, a pay-by-phone parking meter system downtown, said Monica Hernandez, a spokeswoman for the street transportation department.
“It’s basically designed to make life easier for those that are coming to downtown,” she said.
“We want to ensure that we are taking advantage of the technology that’s out there.”
Hernandez said the app is free and already available for download. The Phoenix system was scheduled to be start running by mid-February.
“This is a new system that we are launching this month and it is really intended to provide ease and convenience for people that are looking to park at curbside parking meters,” she said.
The app also has a car-finder function that helps users remember where they parked.
All transactions made on Pango will cost users 7 cents apiece in addition to the metered rate.
