PHOENIX — The Waste Management Phoenix Open welcomed more than 560,000 fans in 2015, breaking its own attendance record in the process.
In total, 564,368 golf fans walked through the gates between Thursday and Sunday at the TPC Scottsdale.
“We had record attendance on Wednesday and record attendance on Thursday which helped us push it over the top here at the end,” tournament spokesman Rob Myers said.
The previous record of 563,008 was set in 2014.
The record fell even though Glendale was hosting the Super Bowl on Sunday. Meyers said 83,000 attended that day.
Myers said charities will receive more than $7 million from the 2015 Open.
“It gives us the grand total of over $100 million in tournament history,” he said.
