‘Hamilton’ creator Lin-Manuel Miranda freestyles for President Obama

Mar 15, 2016, 2:02 PM

President Barack Obama gave an unconventional executive order Monday at the White House when he commanded a uniformed drummer to “drop the beat.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda and some of the other members of “Hamilton,” one of Broadway’s hottest musicals, visited the White House for a day of performances, workshops, and a question and answer session.

Miranda’s lightning-round freestyle in the Rose Garden was a highlight, where the commander in chief held up presidential-themed cue cards for the lyricist to rhyme with.

It appears that the president approves of this message.

“You think that’s going viral?” Obama said. “That’s going viral.”

“Hamilton” follows the story of Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, who was instrumental during the Revolutionary War and later became the nation’s first treasury secretary.

Arizonan history and Broadway buffs alike have cause for excitement, as “Hamilton” is coming to Arizona State University’s Gammage Theater. The musical will debut at the theater during the 2017-2018 season.

For those looking forward to seeing the smash hit musical, you need to be patient: Gammage has not even announced official dates and times for the 2016-2017 season yet.

But according to the press release, the best way to get tickets to the show is through a season subscription for this year, which will guarantee theater-goers tickets before they go on sale to the public.
