PHOENIX — Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders will host an event in Arizona this week, his campaign announced Monday.

The Vermont senator will take the stage at the Phoenix Convention Center for the second time this year. The doors will open at 1 p.m.

Sanders’ campaign said it will be free and open to the public. Attendees were asked to refrain from bringing bags, weapons, chairs and signs or banners.

Sanders’ event comes just one day after his wife, Jane, was scheduled to visit Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s infamous Tent City jail and meet with immigration activists.

Sanders paid a visit to the Phoenix area earlier this year. He told a crowd at the same venue that the nation needs comprehensive immigration reform.

“Our job is not to divide. Our job is to bring people together,” Sanders said at the time. “When we talk about bringing one nation together, there are 11 million people in the shadows. They are afraid to be deported.”

He also spoke of the need to control student debt and increase minimum wage.

Sanders’ latest campaign visit comes just one week before Arizona’s presidential preference election, in which he will once again face off with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Sanders will hope he takes all of Arizona’s 74 Democratic delegates, as he trailed Clinton by nearly 700 delegates as of Monday afternoon.
