Freeze warning extended for Phoenix area through Saturday

PHOENIX — Keep those coats out, Phoenix. Temperatures will stay near freezing through Saturday morning.
The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning Wednesday for south-central Arizona, including the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Lows are expected to be in the upper 20s or lower 30s.
The NWS recommended covering plants to prevent frost damage, bringing pets indoors and covering unprotected pipes.
A majority of Arizona was hit by winter weather on Wednesday. A storm had unloaded almost 5 inches of snow on Flagstaff before noon and multiple highways were closed by weather-related crashes.
In suburban Phoenix, some residents got a rare sight of snow by Wednesday afternoon. National Weather Service meteorologist Mark O’Malley said said north Scottsdale and Cave Creek, just north of Phoenix, received a light dusting.
“It wasn’t a substantial amount,” O’Malley said. “Some of those locations could still get more snow for the remainder of the day. It just looks kind of weird to see snow on a bunch of cactus.”
