PHOENIX — If you have a little too much to drink on new Year’s Eve and don’t feel like paying for a cab, you’re in luck: Valley Metro buses and light rail are free after 7 p.m.

The lifts are courtesy of Coors Light’s Free Rides program.

“Drunk driving is completely preventable,” Gene Giron with MillerCoors said in a release. “We want to help people plan ahead for a safe ride home, and ensure the holiday is memorable for the right reasons.”

Last year, more than 37,000 people took advantage of the free service, a 63 percent increase in holiday ridership.

The service isn’t just for those drinking. It can be used by anyone who wants to stay off the roads.

“Valley Metro is a great choice if you’re heading to the block party and want to avoid some of the traffic and the hassle,” Corinne Holliday with Valley Metro said.

Holliday said a majority of the service will be terminated at 2 a.m., but some end times may be extended for Tempe’s party. For specific service times, go to Valley Metro’s website.
