PHOENIX — Has Tardar Sauce, the Arizona feline better known as Grumpy Cat of Internet fame, earned her owner $100 million since becoming an online celebrity?
It depends on whom you ask.
The Daily Express claimed Sunday the grouchy cat has turned an enormous sum for her owner, Tabatha Bundesen, from advertising, merchandising and a Lifetime movie.
“I was able to quit my job as a waitress within days of her first appearance on social media and the phone simply hasn’t stopped ringing since.”
But not so fast. A day after the Express report hit the Web, Bundesen told the Huffington Post the British tabloid was “completely inaccurate.”
Bundesen declined to comment on her cat’s specific earnings. She said she is considering how and when to give a full interview to set the record straight. She said her TV deal with Lifetime likely meant she would provide additional details to that channel.
Please excuse us while the details of Grumpy Cat’s earnings are fleshed out. We’re going to find an adorable animal to be the next viral sensation and then retire.
