A 29-year-old man was released from the hospital Saturday and booked into jail after an attempted armed robbery.
On Dec. 3, Deray Darnell Hannah entered Discount King Market in Phoenix with a weapon and demanded money from the 49-year-old store clerk. The clerk was alone in the store and told Hannah he didn’t have access to the cash.
The Phoenix Police Department said Hannah then decided to take some computer equipment while still pointing his handgun at the clerk. The clerk took this opportunity to grab at the gun, starting a physical fight between the two. Police said the gun then discharged, but the clerk was able to get the gun away from Hannah.
When police arrived, Hannah was bleeding profusely from the face and head. Police said all wounds came from the fight with the clerk and not the gun. He was taken to a local hospital. The clerk had no injuries.
Hannah faces charges of armed robbery, prohibited possessor (firearm), first degree burglary and warrants.
