PHOENIX — The Mesa Police Department is investigating an incident that involved an officer and was caught on video on Friday. [WARNING: Video description has strong language]
Police responded to a call to assist a parent with her 15-year-old daughter. The daughter exited her mother’s car and began walking away. The girl had a history of running away, police say.
A Mesa police officer arrived and attempted to talk to the girl and get her to stop. After three attempts to talk the girl into stopping, the female officer tried to stop the girl by holding on to her arm.
Police say the 15-year-old kicked and punched the officer in the face, resulting in the officer attempting an arrest with use of physical force.
Both the officer and the 15-year-old were treated for minor injuries at the scene.
While the incident is still under investigation, aggravated assault charges are pending for the 15-year-old.
