Michele Reagan wins Arizona’s race for secretary of state

PHOENIX — Arizona voters chose Republican candidate Michele Reagan over Democrat Terry Goddard to be their next secretary of state.
Throughout Reagan’s 12-year career as a legislator and her campaign, she’s highlighted fair elections as her top priority for her administration.
Reagan wrote House Bill 2305, which would have set regulations for who could drop off an early voting ballot, required a greater number of signatures to run for office and start a regular revaluation of the early voter registry. She is also the Chairwoman for the Senate Elections Committee.
To counter dark money, or anonymous campaign donations made by groups called C-4s, Reagan has said she wants the top three donors to be mentioned in all campaign adds and all corporations donating to campaigns to register with the Secretary of State.
Regarding her position on gay marriage rights, Reagan voted to pass Arizona SB 1062, the highly controversial bill that would have allowed business owners to refuse customers service because of their religious beliefs.
However, on Oct. 17, when Arizona legalized gay marriage, Reagan was quoted celebrating the day as historic.
She was endorsed by Gov. Jan Brewer, who said in her video endorsement of Reagan, “Michele Reagan has worked tireless to reduce voter fraud, remove the influence of dark money and ensure only American citizens can vote.”
Four of the last nine Arizona secretaries of state moved up to the governor to fill a vacancy, so this race is seen as one of the most important in the state.
