PHOENIX — Democratic presidential hopeful Hillary Clinton received the official backing of several prominent Arizona Hispanics on Monday.
Nearly three dozen Hispanic lawmakers and business leaders in Arizona announced their combined support for Clinton’s candidacy.
“We are ‘Latinos con Hillary,’” U.S. Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona) said on the steps of Cesar Chavez Plaza in downtown Phoenix. “We are proud supporters of the next president of the United States.”
The congressman is the son of Hispanic immigrants. He said Clinton’s agenda and proven record make her the clear choice for the Latino community and all Arizona families.
“(She is) someone that has the experience and the knowledge, somebody that we have trusted and known to trust with all issues when it comes to the Latino community especially immigration reform,” Gallego said.
Gallego believes Clinton will create an economy that works for everyone, especially Latinos, through her progressive policies.
Other attendees touted Clinton’s belief in raising wages for working families, guaranteeing women have equal pay, ensuring students can afford college and fighting for comprehensive immigration reform.
Earlier Monday, an Arizona political insider said Clinton’s win in the Nevada caucus on Saturday all but locked up the party’s nomination for her.
I think Clinton is now unstoppable,” former Arizona State legislator Chris Herstam said.
