TEMPE, Ariz. — A speeding car’s race on an East Valley freeway came to an abrupt, fiery halt early Friday morning, when the driver crashed after a highway patrol chase.
The driver escaped the burning car and fled on foot.
Officers said they found more than 100 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the overturned car.
Arizona Department of Public Safety said one of its officers spotted a car hurtling west on Interstate 10 near Ray Road. The car was clocked at 120 mph just after 3 a.m.
The officer gave chase as the car left the freeway at Elliot Road. When the driver tried to get back onto the freeway, he rolled the car. The car came to a rest on its top, on fire.
