Arizona contact lens wearers could see eye doctors less

A new bill could make it so contact lens wearers do not have to see their eye doctor every year.
Arizona state law currently requires contact lens wearers to get an annual eye exam.
“They have to take time out of their busy day, pay additional dollars to go back and see an eye professional before they can receive a prescription,” said Arizona Rep. Heather Carter, sponsor of House Bill 2523. “And in many times that prescription has not changed in two, five, 10, even as many as 15 years.”
Opponents of the bill indicate not getting yearly exams could create health care concerns.
If approved on Feb. 17 at 9:30 a.m. by the House Co mmerce Committee, HB 2523 would need to pass in the entire House.
