Suburban Phoenix police put funds to use on seat belt/car seat campaign

GLENDALE, Ariz. — The Arizona Governor’s Office of Highway Safety has awarded Glendale Police $20,000 to help increase the proper use of seat belts and child safety seats.

Glendale Police Sgt. Jay O’Neil said this will allow the department to deploy more officers in and around school zones this month.

“We want parents to realize that the whole point of this is to keep their children safe. We’re not out there to cause people grief or financial burden. We’re just keeping the streets safe.”

Despite widespread efforts to educate drivers that wearing seat belts saves lives, crashes involving people not belted continue to play a factor in the cause of deaths and serious injuries.
