PHOENIX — Police in Surprise, Arizona, said they have identified the bodies of two women who were found dead inside of a home from apparent gunshot wounds.

One of the victims, Barbara Leslie, 70, was identified as the home’s owner, police said. Surprise Police are not releasing the name of the other victim until her relatives can be contacted.

Surprise Police spokesman Sgt. Norm Owens said they are investigating the possibility of a home invasion.

Officers came across the bodies on Tuesday night during a welfare check on the home at the request of an out-of-state family member.

“When police arrived, they were able to look through a window, and they saw what they believed were two subjects laying on the ground,” he said. “They were able to make entry into the home, at which time police discovered two female victims that had been shot.”

Investigators believe someone entered the home and killed the women, but Owens said there were no immediate suspects.

Owens said officers have obtained a search warrant and are poring through every inch of the home looking for evidence, including going door-to-door to talk to neighbors.

Surprise Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call 623-222-8477, or email crimetips@surpriseaz.gov. Those wishing to remain anonymous can also call Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
