PHOENIX — A severe monsoon storm left thousands in metropolitan Phoenix
without power Sunday morning.
Some residents woke up to find Saturday night’s storm had left a trail of
uprooted trees and down utility poles.
Utility officials said more than 33,000 people across Phoenix had no
Arizona Public Service said 23,000 of their customers lost power — many being in north Phoenix.
APS spokesman Steven Gotfried said that 2,600 customers were still without
power Sunday afternoon and it was unknown when power would return.
Salt River Project said nearly 10,000 households initially lost power late
SRP spokesman Scott Harelson said fewer than 100 customers were still waiting
but would likely have power back by mid-day.
Harelson said most of the outages were relegated to eastern suburbs including
Mesa, Apache Junction and Queen Creek.
