LISTEN: Kids talk trash to win starring roles in PSA

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz — Four Valley youngsters are being rewarded for trash-talking.

The kids, all Scottsdale residents, appear in a public service announcement for the “Don’t Trash Arizona” campaign.

One of them is 9-year-old Abbey Fontes who tells viewers that if we don’t do something about litter, “We may even have to leave Earth and live on Pluto.”

The kids all participated in trash workshops at the Boys and Girls Club of Scottsdale. They won the right to appear in the “Don’t Trash Arizona” public service announcement by writing an essay, taking a picture or making a video about trash. There were winners in each category.

Maya Honig, 12, won for her essay on what residents should do with trash.

“We should get more accessible public trash cans and service for those trash cans,” she said.

Fontes won for her video in which she made this suggestion: “If you see anyone littering, try to tell them or persuade them to stop, so that they can help the world.”
