PHOENIX — If you made it on time to work on Monday — or even made it in at all — you might have noticed a few people were out sick or running late.

It’s no case of the Mondays, but their illness is known by a few different names — Super Bowl Fever, Brown Bottle Flu — but most just call it a hangover.

A survey by Kronos Incorporated said an estimated 16.5 million Americans would miss work on Monday because they had a little too much fun on Sunday.

The survey did not give a state-by-state breakdown, but it estimated one in every 10 people would be out hunting for greasy food and a nice, long nap instead of finishing their TPS reports.

In addition to those out sick, there may have been a few who needed a few more hours of shut-eye. The survey estimated an additional 7.5 million Americans were likely going to be late on Monday.

If you were the only person at work Monday, it might be a good idea to check the employee roster. Do you work with a lot of people aged 18-34? As many as one in five were thinking of calling in hungover sick.

A lot of men — 32 percent of those 18-34 and 20 percent of those 35-44 — said they were thinking of playing hooky on Monday.

But that’s not to say women were immune to Super Bowl Fever. The survey said 10 percent were thinking of staying in bed Monday rather than chatting about the game around the water cooler.

We want to hear from you.
