PHOENIX — Spring is off to an early start in the Phoenix area.

Weather forecasters were expecting Monday to be the first 80-degree day of the year in metro Phoenix and even warmer than that the rest of the week.

Chris Breckenridge with the National Weather Service said temperatures will run 13-14 degrees above normal.

“We have a very strong upper level ridge of high pressure sitting over the West that will remain in position over the next several days,” Breckenridge said, adding, “…83-84 (degrees) seems to be in the wheelhouse for the greater Phoenix area.”

The nighttime lows in the Valley will be in the 50s with no chance of rain until at least next week.

A week ago, rain and wind moved through the area and dropped temperatures.

Flagstaff could see highs in the low 60s from Wednesday to Saturday.

That could come as a relief to many in the high country, after a couple weeks of lots of snow.

On consecutive days in January, Flagstaff received at least two feet of snow. Schools were closed and roads were dangerous.

In Phoenix, there was drizzle that turned into rain and thunderstorms and went back to drizzle and kept the highs in the mid to upper 50s.
