‘Black Hawk Down’ writer to pen Granite Mountain Hotshots film

PHOENIX — Hollywood wants to tell the story of the fallen Granite Mountain Hotshots.
The fact-based feature film will be written by Ken Nolan, best known for writing the 2001 war movie “Black Hawk Down,” according to Deadline.
Dramatic, high-tension films are no stranger to Scott Cooper, who previously directed 2010’s “Crazy Heart,” starring Jeff Bridges, and last year’s “Out of the Furnace,” starring Christian Bale. He is filming “Black Mass,” a movie about legendary organized crime figure Whitey Bulger, played by Johnny Depp.
The filmmakers will be consulting with sole-surviving crew member Brendan McDonough and the widow of crew leader Eric March, along with other family members of the Granite Hotshots crew.
Nineteen members of the Granite Mountain Hotshots died in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30, 2013. Only one crew member survived “in what became the largest loss of firefighters since 9/11 and the greatest loss of wild-land firefighters in 80 years.”
No release date for the movie has been announced.
