Train derailment closes downtown Phoenix street

PHOENIX — Phoenix firefighters say a major street in downtown Phoenix has
reopened after being forced to close because of a train derailment.

Police initially shut down part of 7th Street between Buckeye Road and
Washington Street after the train derailed around 5 a.m. Monday.

KNXV-TV reports the train derailed near Jackson Street
on a bridge just east of Chase Field.

Authorities say no one was injured.

Phoenix Fire Capt. Ruben Saavedra tells KTVK-TV that five rail cars were
involved but none of them appear to be leaking. He says the cars were hauling
oil and water waste and sulfuric acid.

Saavedra says it will take several hours to investigate the cause and clean up
the scene.
