TUCSON, Ariz. — Police in Tucson say a suspect is in custody in connection
with a crash that killed a bicyclist.
They say 25-year-old Gerardo Luna Cazares is being held on suspicion of
second-degree murder and criminal damage. It’s unclear if he has lawyer yet.
Police say 38-year-old Kris Lee Chambers was fatally struck by a car about 6
a.m. Wednesday while riding her bicycle near downtown Tucson.
They say Cazares allegedly ran a red light and may have been impaired by drugs
at the time of the accident.
Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Arizona Daily Star reports Cazares has several traffic infractions in
Tucson City Court, but none for driving impaired.
In January 2013, Cazares was found guilty in Pima County Justice Court of three
counts of disorderly conduct.
